Remembering Donna Keathley

Donna KeathleyThe Garden Club of Switzerland lost a treasured member last month.  Donna Keathley, vice-president of the Garden Club of Switzerland, passed away.  We would like to extend the opportunity to everyone who knew Donna to share their memories and celebrate her life by adding a comment to this website and/or to attend a memorial service for her at her beloved church:

1755 State Road 13
Switzerland, FL
phone:  904-287-4865
Saturday, 9/20 3PM

Our local paper, The Creekline, published a tribute to her in its September edition.  It has graciously allowed us to repost the article here:

It is with great sadness that we at The Creekline share the recent passing of our longtime friend and columnist, Donna Keathley.  Donna was one of our original contributors, penning Fashion Update in her inimitable style for over 12 years and branching out more recently to write under the pseudonym Joy Hartley for The Lifestyle Guru.
Her celebration of life and memorial service will be on Saturday, September 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Geneva Presbyterian Church [see above].  In lieu  of flowers, donations may be made to the Keathley Fund at Geneva that helps with youth scholarships and property improvements.  Donna was always a big participant in the church's annual vacation Bible school.  She and her late husband, Bob Keathley, purchased a grill for the VBS hot dog luncheons and the many youth cookouts at the church.

Donna will be missed greatly and long remembered by many friends in NW St. Johns County.

Your tributes and remembrances of Donna will be posted publicly upon review.  Click Read Comments to view others' remembrances.  Click the Comments link below to submit your own.  one and to view comments from others.  If you have photos you'd like to share, please email them to switzerlandgc@gmail.com

  2. For Donna Keathley

We've had the garden tidied up,
As she would have us do.
Our cherished friend who couldn't stay
    To see the season through.
The flowers were her dearest friends,
    The garden was her own,
We've watched her work, and marveled at
The things that she had grown.
    Her, catalogues keep coming, and
    Her Gardener magazine;
We run across the queerest names,
    And study what they mean,
We read them all, from end to end,
And when the spring is here,
We'll have a garden just like hers,
As though she still was near.
    - adapted from a poem by Albert H. PEDRICK

  3. Donna was always the celebration planner. Each time we would celebrate a birthday, Donna would bring her bag of party supplies to make the occasion a festive one. We would have streamers, confetti, balloons and crowns to adorn our hair all in the name of fun. She will be surely missed by all.
